Holidays

Funny thing John, even up to the present time, we become so attached to the whole place here, the animals, the dogs – holidays didn’t seem to enter into it.  The last holiday I had, because Jack was over in Adelaide, I went to the races there and it would have been Easter time.  I went to the Entreperinka Steeplechase and that was in 1948.  So that’s about 51 years so I must have long service and annual leave mounting up.  Better hurry up and take it because I won’t have enough time to use it all up.  And I don’t regret it because even now with the place in pretty good shape.  To get up of a  morning, especially if it was a clear sky and look across and see the sun coming over the Grampians all that other mountain range.  The whole thing is more or less like a paradise.

I use to go down to the Melbourne Cup.  Go down on the Friday come back on the Wednesday.  Dad could sort of handle that.  Still in all you were never fully at ease because normally when you do go away there’s always  some bloody thing that will happen.
