Ringwood was proclaimed a City on 19 th  March 1960.  The Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks, along with the Mayor or Ringwood declared its City status.  I remember being there for this occasion.  In the photo you can see the Chemist shop in the centre, Jimmy's Handy Bar to the right and to the left of the Chemist, Wards Newsagent.  I don't know if it was because Dad was a friend of Mr. Ward, but I was allowed to go up the stairs of the shop to the roof for one the best vantage points.  There were about 5 or 6 adults with me and you can see them to the left of the red arrow.  I was 11 years old at the time and during that year I was in Grade 5.
There were various festivities during the following week including an exhibition, a carnival at Jubilee Park, special church services, a Ball and a Miss City of Ringwood contest.
