Fires: 1955 - summer.
![]() | It was started by Nugget Williams who was an old itinerant. He was living in Bennets hut. The fire started at an unattended outdoor bush oven. He nearly got the fire out but it got away from him and burnt to the Wannon like the first fire. He was gaoled for a month over this disaster. |
![]() | 110 degrees. Began at the back of Mt. Koroite Station and swept south to the Wannon River |

![]() | I was at Evestons at the times and ran away down the lane heading for Kanes but I was brought back when I discovered to be missing. The sky was as black as night and the fire roared up the valley of Evestons fortunately on the other side of the road. The hose was used to dampen the house in the faint chance that it would help. |
![]() | The cost was 10000 acres, 4000 sheep, 90 cattle and 70 miles of fencing. |

![]() | Ballie, Jack and me were at the woodheap. We noticed smoke and Ballie and I headed off in the Chev. I was standing on the running board going down Douels hill. |

![]() | Davy Russell saved his own house when Ballie and the others retreated to the safety of the road. |
![]() | The fire jumped Douels Road but Jack and Jock Beaton stopped it and put it out. |
![]() | Tommy Eveston was travelling too fast in his truck and threw his large fire unit off the back. |
![]() | There was a great loss of sheep, cattle, houses and fencing. Fortunately no lives were lost. |
