Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving:

We can’t wait.  We head off to Iowa again for the thanksgiving break November 26th till 30th   to have a feast of turkey with Kate’s family.  Seems that most of America is on the move on that weekend – a time to be very careful on the roads.  There is a lot to be thankful for day to day but for the origin of this custom (click on the following link:

 School:

Kate is enjoying her work in the library.  There is still lot to do, especially ordering new books – Harry Potter is a great favourite.  We have a 15 minute reading time after lunch for the whole school.  It’s satisfying to see students getting over the skim reading phase and looking at pictures to actually ‘reading’.  My Maths teaching is fun and the students are working quite well.  Today, everyone is upset because one of the graduates from last year died tragically yesterday.

 Computers:

I’ve taken the plunge – bought a laptop computer on the Internet.  I had to overcome the mental barrier of giving credit card details and delivery instructions but its very common now. Toshiba is a reputable company so it should be OK.  I checked out the local computer stores beforehand and they were $500 more expensive on the same item.  It should be delivered here in a couple of days.

 Weather:

After the closure of school for a day due to the heavy snow in early November, the weather has been great.  The snow has melted and there are lots of mild sunny days.  By the way, 5 inches of snow equates to 1 inch of rain.  The forecast is for heavy snow this weekend – so I guess that’s the real start to winter.

 World Cup

What could be better than beating New Zealand in the World Cup - beating the 'poms' of course.  We were able to watch the replay of the Australia New Zealand on the Fox Channel last night.

Think of us as Australia warms up and we freeze up.

 Regards for now,

 BK and Kate.
