 Hi Steve and Terri,

My name is Brian Kane, an Aussie from Broome Western Australia and my wife is Kate who comes from Iowa, USA.  We are currently working at Crow Creek Reservation School in South Dakota, USA.  I have been teaching at my school in Broome with the Aboriginal people for the last 25 years and we are currently on a cultural exchange teaching in a Native American school which has been quite fascinating.

We have 150 channels on our Cable TV here out on the prairie but we only watch about 6 all the time.  Our favourite is Animal Planet and Steve Irwin comes on each afternoon at 5 o’clock for an hour and again most evenings at 8 o’clock.  Yesterday was particularly good travelling up from Perth to Exmouth and we can’t wait for Part II which will be the Kimberley we expect.

At times we are left exhausted trying to avoid crocs in South America or spitting Cobras etc and sometimes we fight wild animals in our sleep but we never miss your shows.

Back in Broome I have built up a lot of knowledge about bush tucker, the native flora and fauna and in particular bird observations.  I have tried to convey the message on conservation to my students for a long time especially in regard to sustainable fishing and protection for the dugong.  Happily, I have been able to establish an aquaculture facility at the school as well.

We look forward to returning home to begin the school year next year, but in the meantime we get our ‘Aussie fix’ with your welcome programs.

Keep up the good work.

Brian and Kate Kane

PS   I’ve included a rattlesnake story for you if you have time to read it from our web site.

With thanks,

Brian Kane
