Hi
everyone,
Kate and I found ourselves with a long weekend because of the
Presidents Day holiday on Monday. Of course Kate is not one of
George's best friends but we'll take it anyway, so we headed off to
the farm on Saturday morning. It was Valentines Day and
beautifully sunny. On the way day we stopped off for a Mc Donald's
hamburger in Sioux City and then I suggested to Kate that I take a
couple of photos of the National headquarters of Gateway which was
directly across from us. I thought Mark Leitch and Fogliani
will really appreciated some pics. In just a few minutes we
made our way along the public access road to the visitors centre car
park and I started taking some shots. It was then that I heard
a stern, authorative voice. "What-a-ya doing here!
You can't take pictures!" Startled, I wheeled around to
see a security guard leaning out the window of a jeep.
"Sorry, I didn't know it was illegal", I replied. By
that stage, Kate, had heard the tone of his voice and joined the
fray. "Sir, there should be a sign here warning us, if
its going to be a problem" Kate calmly said. I thought,
"Don't upset this guy, he might take my camera away at best or
I could be sent to that jail where your case doesn't come up for a
few years. But, soon we were all nice and friendly and he
turned out to be pretty good bloke. They had caught us on the
surveillance camera and the boss had instructed him to check out the
"tall dude with the camera" taking pics of the visitors
centre. Seems that it’s OK Monday to Friday when it’s open
but not on Saturday. As we drove away we had a good laugh and
we thought it was a real storm in a teacup. It would have been
the only incident he had for the day I'm sure. No doubt they
would have our number plate too but the car belongs to a friend of
mine who lives in a small town called White Lake. I'm sure
that when they investigate they will find no security threat.
I suppose they can't be too careful after 9/11 but it left me with
the thought - "don't gatecrash Gateway!"
Hope you like the illegal pics. and I trust that the 'two Mark's'
appreciate the trouble I went to and risks I took in obtaining them.
Regards,
BK and Kate
