Drugs

Hi everyone,

 “Drugs”

How do you describe our guest speaker on the topic of drugs?  A young female former resident of this area – a lady in her mid to late twenties.  The obvious feature is the hair.  Long flowing at the back and pulled up really high in the front in the form of a McDonalds ‘M’.  Her face is painted with extravagant black and white make-up and her clothes are those of a street gang member, complete with shiny platform shoes.  Laced spider leather runs up each arm and one of the teachers near me remarks: “Is she going to show the kids how to do drugs?”  She spoke to the whole school for an hour in a riveting presentation, which left you numb, and reaching for the hanky to hid the tears.

The familiar story of a young brother and sister loosing their father to a heart attack and a mother who did drugs and finding themselves joining a street gang in L.A.   By the age of 12 she was living with a 25 year man and was put in prison at the age of 15 with multiple felonies.  Seems she had done it all in L.A. and was now the drug counselor for this area.  Somehow, she had turned her life around, gained a College education and was now pregnant with twins.  It had taken her an hour to dress up for this gig – fortunately this was not her normal look but a throw back to her former life.

Of course drugs are a huge issue anywhere in the U.S. and Crow Creek has its fair share.  There has been a marked improvement here since the local wardens check all vehicles coming into the school campus 24/7 a year as they call it  – strictly no alcohol or drugs are to come in.  Her final message was that “you don’t live for the future, you live for today because the future never comes”.
