MISSING OMAHAN IS DECLARED DEAD-
An Omaha man missing since August
6, 1947 has been declared dead by the Navy Department. Dominic J. Loftus, of
5431 South twenty-ninth Avenue, was advised Tuesday that his son, William F.
Loftus, 23 yoeman second class has been declared deceased. William and 17 other
Navy men disappeared on a PBY plane during a flight from Kodiak to Dutch Harbor,
Alaska. No trace has ever been found of the missing plane or the passengers. The
Navy has abandoned the search. passengers on the plane were members of a Navy
all-star baseball team flying to play an exhibition game. Survivors in addition
to the father are: Brothers, Thomas J., 3716 Dodge Street; Michael, 4742 South
nineteenth Street; James, Miami, Fla.; Jack, 2814 U Avenue; Donald, 5701 South
Twenty-ninth Street; sisters, Mrs. Catherine Sullivan, 5431 South Twenty-ninth
Avenue; Mrs. Margaret Diggins, Magnolia, IA; Mrs. Mary McNeil, Chicago.....
