Hi everyone,
“Little farm on the Prairie”
We’ve
moved. We’re now living in a little farmhouse 3 miles from the
school along the highway to Fort Thompson, which is about 13 miles away.
We’ve swapped with a teacher who wants to live on campus. One of
Kate’s dreams is to live on a farm out in the sticks. Well, just
before we moved, her friend, Marcella –(a Native American who worked
with Kate 10 years ago here), rang to say that someone died out there
years ago and there is a spirit that hangs around. It seemed to
unsettle Kate slightly, but I dismissed it as scare mongering. It
took most of Saturday to move in and the quietness was great - just the
occasional truck or car passing by and the twittering of the birds in the
nearby trees.
Well, I found this contraption in the house no bigger than
a matchbox. The cover was off it and there was wiring inside.
I mucked around with it and put my fingers into the circuit. I then
heard rumbling outside. “Oh, great, that’s Don, the owner, come
to check how we’re going!” I looked outside and noticed that the
garage door was up and
there was a boat inside. “OK, so Don’s
come to check out his boat.” But, there’s no vehicle!
“Hang on – there’s no vehicle!!!” “What was that rumbling
sound and how come the garage door is open?????? Hey – what
was that about the spirit?” I was starting to get uneasy when I
realized that I had pressed the remote for the garage door. Not bad
– the beam had penetrated the two walls of the house. The mystery
was solved.
We’re enjoying our little house on the prairie.
It’s quite good to be able to leave the school and also drive to work in
the morning – 7 minutes.
This morning I rode in on the mountain
bike – 25 minutes. I’ve taken pictures of the house and the
surroundings – hope you like them.
Regards,
BK
